She will give two readings with community discussion in Belgrade, Serbia May 30th and 31st, organized by the Lesbian Union and Women in Black.

In July, Dykewomon will be a Featured Performer at the Old Lesbians Organizing for Change National Gathering in Boston, July 19-22, and will also give a writing workshop.

She will be presenting a paper at NWSA in Oakland, Nov 8-11, on a panel called: Women’s Bodies Unbound: creating a revolutionary future for fat studies.

She is continuing to lead private writing groups for lesbians in the Bay Area (www.dykewomon.org).

The Australian Antarctic Division awarded Jesse the 2011-12 Antarctic Arts Fellowship and she traveled to Antarctica during November and December 2011 to research her novel about the first woman to reach Antarctica. Jesse has won several writing awards, most recently the Varuna HarperCollins Manuscript Development Award and the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Short Story Award.

Jesse’s novel, The Raven’s Heart, was inspired by her research into her family name.

Hilary’s novel, Art on Fire, is the new winner of the Bywater Prize for Fiction. Art On Fire has been an almost-winner many times: It was a finalist for the Heekin Foundation Award, the Mid-list Press Competition, the Dana Awards, and The Story Oaks Prize. It did receive a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and was mistakenly awarded the non-fiction prize in the Amherst Book and Plow Competition!

Ms. Karlsberg brings nearly 25 years of experience in the book industry to her new position. She was one of the founders of Amethyst Press, described by Sarah Schulman as having published “the most interesting collection of gay male writing in the history of our literature.” After leaving Amethyst she established Michele Karlsberg Marketing and Management and has worked as a publicist with some of the finest authors in LGBT literature, including Martin Duberman, Anthony Bidulka, Jewelle Gomez, Felice Picano, Ellen Hart, Katherine V. Forrest, and Kate Clinton. In addition to taking on the role of publisher, Ms. Karlsberg will continue to serve as the Marketing Director at Bywater as well as retaining her Marketing and Management clientele and responsibilities.

Michele Karlsberg’s skill as a publicist is well known: she was recently presented with the Publishing Triangle Leadership Award and was also inducted into the Saints and Sinners Literary Hall Of Fame in New Orleans. Along with Olivia Travel, she produced the first Olivia Book Expo on the Holland America Cruise Line. As curator of Outspoken, a nationwide gay and lesbian literary series, she helps new and established voices reach a wider audience.

Bywater Books is delighted that Ms. Karlsberg will be bringing her skills, drive, and focus to her new role as publisher.

And last but certainly not least we have Kate Clinton! Don’t Get Me Started and What the L? are now out in ebook format. As always with Kate, the humor dances amid her keen observations of life and politics. Not to be missed.
