COMING IN JULY 2017
“Goldenrod takes us back to Jericho, where the modern-day fight for respect and civil rights can sometimes be a literal fight. Its hardscrabble characters invoke Dorothy Allison; its provocative humor, Rita Mae Brown. In other words—it’s pure Ann McMan. ” —Lambda Literary Award winner, KG MacGregor
“Jericho by Ann McMan is one of the best friends-to-lovers romances you’ll ever read.” —Tara Scott, The Lesbian Review
“I love Ann McMan.” —Dorothy Allison, author of Cavedweller and National Book Award finalist, Bastard Out of Carolina
“Ann McMan is the lesbian Armistead Maupin, only better.” —Lee Lynch, author of The Swashbuckler
Return to Jericho, a sleepy town in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia where life is anything but dull.
Maddie and Syd struggle to find a new normal without their foster child, Henry Lawrence, who now is fighting his own battles after being reunited with his disabled veteran father. Henry befriends Dorothy, a young girl wrestling with her own family demons. Meanwhile, David struggles with Michael’s growing passion for slinging hash in a local soul food restaurant; Lizzie Mayes and Tom Murphy come to a crossroads in their relationship; ninety year-old, Yankee-hating Azalea is hired as a beta tester for Grand Theft Auto VI; Maddie’s patrician mother retires to Jericho and becomes uncomfortably attracted to a much younger man; and the irrepressible Roma Jean Freemantle struggles to pilot an unwieldy bookmobile and her growing attraction to another woman.
Throughout it all, life and love in this endearing community take as many twists and turns as a winding mountain road—but hope and the human spirit glow as brilliantly as goldenrod in the autumn sun.
Ann McMan is the award-winning author of six novels and two short story collections. She has won four Golden Crown Literary Awards and an IPPY. Her novel, Hoosier Daddy, was a Lambda Literary Award Finalist. She lives in Winston-Salem, NC.
